Monday July 7th

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Things changed at the workshop. We are now moving toward production. So we spoke, Warmed up the actors, and then will had them read the new Pashto scripts. Prep took awhile as some needed to transliterate and others had to be read too. Lot’s of complaining about the cast. Authors vying for different casting for their plays. I held fast putting the educational principal over the artistic principal. Everyone deserves a chance. It sort of explains to me, why I have never joined in the discussion of completive casting at Cornish. Cause I believe the artistic is second to the education in these situations. And I believe people learn more going through the process rather than sitting on the sidelines.

We spent the afternoon on our own, I worked out and rested, watched galactica, worked on the budget and rested. Dinner at Steve’s and then more Deadwood.

Sunday July 6th

I was downstairs before 7am waiting for Chris to show up. His plane was due in at 6am so I figured he would be there between 7 and 7:30. But as I checked my e-mail his plane had been delayed an hour. I had tea in the café and worked on line. He arrived around 8 and he was in good spirits with good energy. He had slept on the planes. He got settled then came back down for breakfast. Afterward we split and met at the pool about an hour or so later. He floated on a float and I swam 25 laps. We all met at Steve’s around 2 for a couple of hours, to go over things and cast the plays. Sunday Steve’s cook is off so we all met for dinner in the bar at the club. Chris left to crash. I went with Steve and Kerry to watch Deadwood. Will back to his room. He was catching up with us on Deadwood.

Saturday July 5th

Our frst Saturday workshop, I gave Kerry the off as he seemed to need it. His role was winding down. He’d been putting in lots of extra hours, editing and typing scripts outside of class. After class, Will went to the WHO to do an interview and I came back to the club. We gathered for dinner at Steve’s. More Deadwood afterward.

Friday July 4th

The workshop went well continue on the work we had started. We read the last script today. In the afternoon resting. The evening a bar-b-que and fireworks. All of which was fairly low key. The music at the Bar=b=que was American Rock and Roll, played too loud the food was hot dogs, hamburgers, kebabs, potato salad, and cake. The fireworks were across the street at the tennis court and the staff of the club hand lit the fire works.

I thought it was amazing no one blew themselves up. Over to Steve’s for Deadwood.

Thursday July 3rd

Will had sort of a rough night. In the older building here when the power fails during the night, the air conditioner goes off but doesn’t turn back on when the power comes on. He had 6 outages. He and I had breakfast together. Kerry came by for tea and then off to the workshop. Will gave an hour talk on how we would be approaching performance. And important elements of Radio Drama. We had a huge Pakistani meal that I had ordered for everyone right after the workshop. We had shifted hours so that the workshop started later and lunch was at 1, which turned out to be 1:30 by the time it arrived and was set up. It was quite a spread and very good curries and lamb and salad, and Naann. We rested in the afternoon, I spoke to the office about his room, they said they would do something. (the questions is what and when) Dinner at Steve’s. Will left early and Kerry and Steve and I continued watching the series Deadwood. I’m watching Battle Star Galactica back at my room every afternoon now….

Wednesday July 2nd

Will arrived. The van brought him from the airport around 5:30. It was nice to meet him. We had spoken on the phone and communicated by e-mail. At 7 we went to Steve’s for dinner and chatted. He would come to class tomorrow mainly to observe but after that, he would fully participate. He said he was excited. Will has a low key energy compared to Kerry and me so I just took his word for it.

I have been very remiss in posting here but rather than going back, I think that I will post many pictures as they will be worth thousands of words. More words soon enough.

Also I am expecting Will to arrive in the next two hours so that will keep me busy.
